How to Build a Dynamite Promo Display For Your Retail Store

If you have a physical storefront and are looking to add or increase revenue from promotional products, it’s a great idea to start with developing an eye-catching and beautiful display dedicated to that part of your business.

Here are the top 4 tips for building a promo display that captures attention:

  1. Collect samples. Product samples are king in our industry and most suppliers are willing to give them out at no cost to drive interest! Our best tip to get your hands on some free samples is to head to your nearest trade show (ASI Show Chicago is happening July 19-21)! Supplier exhibitors arrive to trade shows armed with boxes and boxes of free samples to help establish relationships with distributors like you. Remember to bring a tote bag to carry some home and place them around your retail display to generate interest. Another way to start collecting samples is to pick up the phone and call your favorite suppliers! Ask if you’re able to order samples for your display to drive more sales. Typically, suppliers will only ask you to pay for shipping. You could also decorate your display with leftover promo items from past campaigns you’ve run or your own personal company swag like your favorite logoed cap or mug.
  2. Use attractive promo items. Think bright colors and popular items the average consumer loves like T-shirts, hats and mugs. If the items are recognizable as something a person would keep in their own house, they’re more likely to see the value in them. Anything that’s able to be touched, felt and held makes a great sales tool. People standing at your checkout counter or desk won’t be able to stop themselves from picking up that fuzzy stress reliever or smooth and shiny logoed paperweight.
  3. Add catalogs to your display so customers can see everything you offer, take a catalog with them or page through while they’re waiting. Try catalogs that include a ton of product variety, like Spectrum! You can also include these in your order packaging so customers can browse on their own time. They make incredibly versatile sales tools and typically have a super long shelf life.
  4. Use signage. Add a sign to your display that reads something like “Ask Me About Promo” in large, eye-catching font. You can even include a smaller subhead that says: “I can put your logo on anything!” This will encourage questions from your retail visitors and may spark a conversation that could lead to a sale. We offer free, pre-built downloadable flyers that make effective signs for your display!
