Genumark returns to the list after a one-year absence due to a COVID-influenced drop in sales. The Toronto-based firm – overseen by executive chairman, industry veteran and Power 50 member Mark Freed, and his son Mitch, the CEO who took the reins in January – grew its sales 22.5% last year, which is especially impressive given the glacial pace at which the Canadian promo business has reverted to pre-pandemic levels. “There were specific restrictions on public gathering numbers even up until Q1 of 2022, so Canada has been much slower to return ‘back to normal’ than the U.S.,” says Mitch Freed. “Some of our essential business clients (i.e., grocery retailers) had fairly consistent sales with us throughout the pandemic, and we also have a corporate uniform division that performed well. Additionally, we have a strong summer camp and school division that has exploded.”
