Sales for the Woodinville, WA-based company helmed by Jay Deutsch dropped nearly 30% from 2020, due to selling a business unit -- its video gaming accessories brand, PowerA, to publicly-traded ACCO Brand Corporation, one of the world’s largest producers of branded academic, consumer and business products -- for $395 million at the end of 2020. In 2021, BDA opened two new distribution centers – one in the Netherlands and one in Canada – expanded its Las Vegas office due to its lucrative partnership with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), and entered into a promo licensing partnership with Zamboni, the company that manufacturers ice resurfacing machines often used at hockey games. Relatedly, Deutsch – a member of Counselor’s Power 50 -- took a minority ownership stake in the Seattle Kraken, the NHL’s newest hockey team. Regarding BDA, Deutsch says the company grew its divisions double digits year over year. “We are absolutely crushing it this year,” he maintains. “And there will be a very big number for 2022 if all holds well.”
