Katz slides 13 places down this year’s list, in part due to lower rankings from his Power 50 peers and the promo industry, as well as a personal lack of visibility within the promo world. Still, Custom Ink’s shadow looms large over the apparel decoration side of the industry, and strategic acquisitions in recent months have helped position the e-commerce powerhouse for broader dominance in promo. Last November, Custom Ink acquired Swag.com, a New York-based distributor that operates an end-to-end functional and easy-to-navigate promo shopping website; and in January of this year, it acquired Printfection, a fast-growing branded merch management platform. Katz continues to embrace the digital side of the business; Custom Ink recently decided to offload office space, making its corporate employees fully remote.
