An industry outsider with experience in food and consumer packaged goods (working for companies such as General Mills, Smucker’s and Morton Salt), Daron Hines is increasingly making his mark in his second year leading Staples Promotional Products (SPP). Under Hines’ leadership, SPP – the industry’s third-largest distributor – launched a sustainable procurement program that uses EcoVadis to assess, score and report the sustainability of products and suppliers. At the time of its launch, Hines called the program an industry first as the transparent and thorough look at supply chain sustainability aims to raise the bar for the promo industry. Combined with positive marks for rising influence from his Power 50 cohorts as Hines becomes more entrenched, the president of SPP moves up eight spots on this year’s list.
