Sanders, Biden Split Bumper Sticker Polls
While Sanders leads in Washington, Biden is ahead in Michigan.
The Democratic presidential field has narrowed since Super Tuesday, leaving just Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders in ASI’s recent bumper sticker polls. This two-horse race is neck and neck heading into the Michigan and Washington primaries, which take place on March 10.
ASI Market Research surveyed a sampling of 500 voters in both Michigan and Washington, asking which Democratic candidate’s bumper sticker they’d be most willing to put on their car. In Michigan, over half of respondents (53%) said they’d choose the former vice president over Sanders (47%). In Washington, the results were flipped – 52% of respondents said they’d choose Sanders over Biden (48%).
“If one month ago, you would have told me that the majority of Michigan primary voters would back Joe Biden in our bumper sticker poll, I doubt that I would have believed you,” said Nathaniel Kucsma, executive director of research and corporate marketing at ASI. “After all, in February, Biden was trailing Tulsi Gabbard in our New Hampshire bumper sticker poll, but that’s how fast things can change.”
Biden is fresh off dominating Super Tuesday, winning 10 states including Texas. However, Sanders took California, which has the most delegates of any state at 415. ASI’s bumper sticker poll for Super Tuesday indicated that Sanders would win California, Texas, Colorado, Massachusetts and Virginia.
ASI’s four other bumper sticker polls — in South Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire and Iowa — have been mostly accurate in predicting the primary winner in each state, except in New Hampshire. The poll predicted Pete Buttigieg (who has since dropped out) would take it, but Sanders managed to eke out a win.
From March 4 to March 7, ASI Market Research used the Google Consumer Survey network to survey 1,000 Democratic voters from Washington and Michigan with the single-question poll.
