Cold-Shoulder Tops Trend as Vaccine Fashion
The look has gained steam after singer Dolly Parton wore the style to get her COVID-19 vaccine.
Country star, cultural icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton may have one more entry to add to her already impressive resume: vaccine fashionista. The singer, who donated $1 million last year to fund COVID-19 research, got a “dose of her own medicine” this week and posted a public service announcement, replacing the chorus of her hit song “Jolene” with the word “vaccine.”
She also donned a sparkling navy cold-shoulder top to get her vaccination.

It's a choice many are lauding as both fashionable and practical since it gives healthcare professionals easy access to administer the COVID vaccine. New Yorker writer Rachel Syme joked on Twitter that “cold-shoulder tops are now called vaccine tops and they are cool again.”
I love that Dolly Parton put a “cold shoulder” top to its highest and best use as a vaccine-getting garment.

On Instagram, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton posted a vintage photo of herself in a cold-shoulder top, thanking Parton for bringing the style back into fashion.

Even before Parton’s viral tweet, though, off-the-shoulder fashion was having a moment, thanks to the aforementioned easy vaccine access. Fast fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing told U.K. lifestyle site Tyla that “they’ve seen a spike in sales of off-the-shoulder outfits” by 29% between January and February. The Daily Beast calls the cold-shoulder top the next evolution in pandemic fashion, as we transition away from sweatpants: “We need a new piece of clothing to represent the impending promise of a brighter future.”
A logoed, cold-shoulder top could be a lighthearted addition to promotions centered around vaccine awareness, or as part of “back to work” incentive kits for employers looking to encourage their workers to get their shot.
