The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of plush animal toys, after the manufacturer discovered the products’ plastic eyes can detach, posing a choking hazard. Douglas Company Inc. of Keene, NH, received two reports of the toys’ eyes detaching or loosening. No injuries have been reported and no ASI-listed companies were named in the recall.

The recall involves toys Oliver the Bear, Chewie the English Bulldog and Charlotte the Fox. Oliver is a brown and tan stuffed bear with a blue T-shirt bearing his name and a removable red cape. Chewie is a brown and white bulldog with a blue patch sewn on the chest that reads “Chewie.” Charlotte is a brown, black and white fox with a removable blue cape. Each of the toys has a sewn-in label with the words “DOUGLAS® the cuddle toy” on it. About 25,000 of the toys, which were made in China, were sold at specialty toy and gift stores nationwide from July 2014 to April 2017 for about $20 each. They were also distributed by United Healthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) to various individuals and organizations.

The CPSC is asking consumers to immediately take the recalled plush toys away from young children and contact Douglas for a free replacement product or full refund.
