Taylor Swift, Stella McCartney Collaborate on Merch
The marriage between music and merch is unlikely to calm down anytime soon. Consider the latest collaboration between popstar Taylor Swift and designer Stella McCartney. The pair teamed up to create a line of sustainable, vegan fashion to coincide with the release of Swift’s latest album, Lover.
The collection ticks off a number of marks in a trend-setter’s checklist, including the deployment of a limited-edition pop-up shop. From Aug. 23 to 25, New York will be host to The Lover Experience, a pop up that will be selling items from the Taylor Swift x Stella McCartney collaboration. Details of the pop-up shop were scheduled to be revealed Thursday during a YouTube Live event.

The fashion collection’s look book was recently revealed on Swift’s website and includes band tees with the complete track list from Lover emblazoned on the back, printed totes and more. There’s a shirt bearing the image of Swift’s cat, Benjamin Button (which explains why she filed a trademark for the kitten’s name earlier this summer). There are shirts peppered with random song lines. And an overwhelming abundance of pastel tie-dye.
In addition to the main collection, there are two exclusive Stella McCartney pieces: a bomber jacket with an airbrushed heart and rhinestone details ($1,995) made from sustainable viscose and a handbag ($795) made from faux-leather (derived from recycled polyester and vegetable waste oils). Those pieces will be available on Stella McCartney’s website, standalone stores in London and New York and at the Lover Experience pop-up.
What perhaps sets Swift’s collection apart from other music merch is the sustainability angle. All of the jersey pieces in the collection were made from organic cotton. “Taylor is a huge supporter of Stella’s pioneering work in the field of sustainability and is excited to be able to offer pieces to fans that are kind to the environment,” according to a press release.
McCartney and Swift decided to work together after they met at one of Swift’s concerts in London. Swift dropped McCartney’s name in one of the songs from her new album, according to Vogue. “After Taylor played me the entire album, it gave me such incredible inspiration for the collaboration and it really revolved around the music,” McCartney told the fashion magazine.
Swift's full track list appears on several of the tees.
