Pediatrics Office Uses T-shirts to Promote Vaccination

A New York pediatrician’s office has gone viral after employees sported custom tees to help combat the anti-vaccination movement. Earlier this month, Legacy Pediatrics in Rochester posted a photo on its Facebook page of seven employees wearing black T-shirts bearing the phrase: “Vaccines Cause Adults.”

It’s another example of the power of a T-shirt to spark conversation and mobilize activists.

Kate Shand, a physician’s assistant, told a local ABC affiliate that the idea came from a meme. “It’s kind of a play on vaccines cause autism, which they do not. They cause adults,” she says. “Healthy kids get vaccinated and grow into adulthood and be healthy adults.”

Over the course of a few days , the post had reached nearly 17,000 people, and Shand says they’ve received overwhelmingly positive responses (though it wasn’t too long before some members of the modern anti-vaccination movement found the post and added their own take on the shirts).

The tees were printed by Crazy Dog T-shirts, and are being sold both online and in the pediatrician’s office. Proceeds from the purchase are being donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital and UNICEF.
