Thanks to Beyoncé, Popeyes Uniforms Are Fashion

When Beyoncé’s Ivy Park clothing line teamed up with Adidas to launch an activewear collection last month, keen-eyed observers were quick to point out on social media how similar the items were to Popeyes’ branding colors and uniforms.

So, the fried chicken chain responded by releasing its own line of clothing – Popeyes uniforms laid out in a fashion-forward photoshoot that closely resembled the Ivy Park collection.

This isn’t the first time that a fast food chain has ventured into the realm of branded merch. Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts and more have all tried their hand at apparel, selling everything from hot sauce packet bikinis to cuddly one-piece pajamas. The difference this time, perhaps, is that Popeyes didn’t create something new; instead, the brand used its own uniforms, but styled them in a way that reads high fashion.

“That’s the only thing we did,” Peña Plaza of ad agency GUT told The Wall Street Journal. “Grab something from the day to day and say, ‘Hey world, this can also be fashion.’ We put it in that light, and people said, ‘Yes.’ If you show it as fashion, it’s fashion.”

Turns out, there are plenty of people willing to pay to look like they work at Popeyes.

Most of the items featured on That Look From Popeyes have already sold out, though the company says it will be restocking. Proceeds from the sales will go to Popeyes’ charitable foundation, according to the chain.
