New KFC Swag Is Out of This World

Love fried chicken and outer space? Then, Kentucky Fried Chicken has some swag for you. The fast food brand just launched an online shop, KFC Ltd., which features a 400-year-old meteorite molded into the shape of a Zinger chicken sandwich and carrying the astronomical price tag of $20,000. You read that right.

New KFC Swag Is Out of This World

According to pop culture site the A.V. Club, it’s the perfect gift for someone “wealthy enough to collect space objects, but foolish enough to destroy their value by ironically shaping them into fast-food sandwiches.” Ouch.

KFC says the high-priced, extra-terrestrial art is meant to commemorate another recent publicity stunt: that time last month when it shot a Zinger sandwich into the stratosphere, via a high-altitude weather balloon. The snack-bearing craft had a target altitude of 77,000 feet, higher than most airplanes go, but still well beneath what would be considered outer space.

If you’re not in the market for space rock, however, the colonel has other wares to spice up your home and wardrobe. Among the unusual items up for sale are a pillowcase bearing Colonel Sanders’ face, a gold-plated necklace that proclaims the wearer “finger lickin’ good,” and socks and ties decorated with tiny fried chicken drumsticks. The line was created in collaboration with advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy.

“KFC and Colonel Sanders have been American pop culture icons for more than 70 years,” says Steve Kelly, director of media and digital in the U.S. for KFC. “Our fans were craving a way to embrace the fried chicken lifestyle, and KFC Ltd. gives them the opportunity to let their colonel flag fly.”

Everything on KFC Ltd. is produced in limited-edition quantities. However, KFC advises aficionados to check the site regularly for new collections. Below are some items from the inaugural collection for your viewing enjoyment.
