Team USA Looks to Earn Gold in Style
As the American uniforms get released, there’s a lot of patriotic Olympics merch available.
On July 23, the Summer Olympics are back, after being postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to apparel brands like Ralph Lauren and Kim Kardashian’s Skims, Team USA athletes will be competing in style when they arrive in Tokyo. For those of us on the sidelines at home, there’s plenty of official merch to peruse.
One of the more unique pieces this year comes from Ralph Lauren – a flag-bearer jacket that incorporates wearable cooling technology. Designed to be worn during the opening and closing ceremonies, the jacket acts as a personal air conditioner to help beat the Tokyo heat.

It’s the opposite of what Ralph Lauren did at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, when it created heated jackets.

Fanatics and the official Team USA shop have a slew of official gear available, including several Ralph Lauren pieces, such as a pullover hoodie and a cotton T-shirt featuring a sublimated tie-dye print and a screen-printed “Team USA” graphic on the front.

Another brand getting its team in the game is Kim Kardashian’s shapewear company Skims, which will be providing underwear, loungewear and pajamas to American female athletes at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It’s the first time athletes will be provided with underwear and loungewear. Skims also dropped a limited-edition capsule collection of Olympics apparel for the general public, though much of it is already sold out.

The U.S. National men’s and women’s soccer teams are popular areas for merch. Nike released the patriotic kits players will be wearing in Tokyo. The design, titled “Stars in Stripes,” is inspired by a waving flag, according to Nike.

USA Basketball has also released the uniforms Team USA will wear. The Nike uniform features a clean design with multiple shades of blue throughout. “USA” is printed across the front, with the player’s last name and number on the back.

The U.S. Water Polo team also began promoting its team by holding a giveaway during a qualifying game.
