JERZEES (asi/40650) recently announced the launch of a 100% ring-spun cotton T-shirt that incorporates DRI-POWER technology. The active casual tee combines the softness of ring-spun with the technical benefits of moisture-wicking and odor-control technology. We spoke with Jeff Traen, director of product marketing and merchandising for Fruit of the Loom and JERZEES Activewear, about the new shirts.

Q: Why did you decide to add technical features like moisture-wicking and odor control to a ring-spun cotton tee?

Jeff Traen: We’re definitely seeing a trend for apparel that offers the comfort, softness and fit of 100% cotton, but with the performance they’ve come to expect in 100% poly. Performance is not limited to running a 10K or participating in hot yoga. Today’s consumers live multifaceted lifestyles, and they’re looking for apparel that delivers the performance and versatility to go where they go. It’s all about meeting the demand for a changing market.

Q: What styles and colors are available?

JT: The DRI-POWER Ring-Spun tee is currently offered in 15 colors, sizes S-3XL. The shirts are available at distributor locations across the country. You can locate inventory by accessing our online product locator at jerzees.com.

Youth, long-sleeve and ladies’ options will be launching in the near future. 

Q: Are there any special considerations screen printers and other apparel decorators need to make with this new style?

JT: One thing I think is worth mentioning is that direct-to-garment (DTG) printing is difficult to achieve on 100% poly. There are also extra precautions decorators need to take to prevent dye migration when screen printing using plastisol inks. With our DRI-POWER Ring-Spun tee, however, there are no extra steps or limitations to the type of decoration that can be done, so setup is easier, and decorators can offer a product that delivers the performance features today’s consumers are looking for.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add about the tees?

JT: Though these tees are updated with a premium sleeve construction, they are more forgiving for the everyday body type. The DRI-POWER Ring-Spun tee stays true to our JERZEES heritage, so customers that know our brand and put it on won’t be turned off because it’s too tight or fitted. They’ll notice the premium fit, but still with the classic styling they’re used to.
