Top Your Hat Game With These Trends

Versatile and stylish, caps serve any promotional purpose.

What better way to top off any promotion than with a cap? With an array of styles, colors and decoration options, there’s a cap to fit just about every market and demographic. It’s a bundler’s dream too – pair it with another apparel item (like a T-shirt) or rugged hard goods (tumblers or coolers) for an unbeatable combo. Here are a few of the more popular cap styles that are hot right now.

Mesh-back trucker cap

This unstructured, mesh-back cap (i8527) instantly feels like an old favorite thanks to its relaxed, classic fit and vintage wash. Available from Cap America (asi/43792); capamerica.com

Snapback Trucker Cap: With a medium profile, structured build and modified flat bill, the trucker hat has broad appeal. “It’s hard for suppliers to keep this style on the shelves,” says Rhyen Campbell, content strategist at Cap America (asi/43792). “This style is still relevant; it’s popular across a very wide demographic.”

The “Dad Hat”: Lower profile with a relaxed, unstructured construction, dad caps have a classic, vintage feel. “They’re very comfortable and take many decorating options,” says Michael Nakajima, sales executive for Mega Cap (asi/70434).

Performance Hats: Caps with water-repellent properties, UV ratings and other performance features work for more than just athletes – the trend in fashion now is stylish items that serve multiple functions.

Decoration Ideas

There are many ways to decorate a cap. Try one of these four trendy takes.

1. Puff Embroidery: 3-D embroidery continues to be a popular way to make logos pop on caps. “What was once a must-have in the teamwear sector is now gaining traction in corporate headwear sales,” says Rhyen Campbell, content strategist at Cap America (asi/43792).

2. Patches: This of-the-moment decoration method has a variety of options, from embroidered and woven label patches to sublimated and screen-printed patches. Leather patches with etched or debossed logos are a great way to give a cap promotion a high-end feel.

3. Silicone Transfers: Heat-pressed directly to a cap, these transfers have a matte finish and range in thickness depending on the level of detail in the logo. Simple, bold designs are thicker, whereas logos with small details tend to be thinner.

4. Unexpected Placements: Create a retail-ready look with embroidery that wraps around the side of a cap or even on to the brim. Or consider personalizing the back of a cap with a name or player number. Consult with your cap supplier to figure out the feasibility of nonstandard decoration placements.
