Last month, we invited the three Fashion Faceoff judges to view the athleisure mini-collections created by contestants at Moore College of Art & Design. Though we won’t be revealing the winners of our contest until the August issue of Wearables, we’d like to share some of the judges’ reactions to the contestants’ work.

Monica Bates’ athleisure look includes stripes, fringe and a digital print inspired by the work of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Her motif from her digital print is repeated in laser etching down the sleeve of a deep blue fleece from Vantage Apparel.

The judges particularly liked the almost architectural print Bates created. “It feels very art nouveau, which I absolutely love,” says Conrad Booker. “I think that could have really been manipulated.” He adds that he would have loved to see the graphic even more prominently featured in the Vantage Apparel top. Pamela Ptak and Savannah DeVore both liked the laser etching on the Vantage look, with Ptak calling the fleece “store-ready and appealing.”

Ptak also liked the laser-cut fringe planned for the shawl in the women’s athleisure look.
