AI, Automation and the Digital Future of Apparel
It’s the final show of New York Fashion Week. A parade of models struts down the catwalk in garments that take the audience’s breath away – a collection that is iterative yet wholly unique. As is customary at the close of the show, the designer appears on the runway as the crowd explodes in adulation. But it’s not a person being serenaded – it’s a computer. After all, the fashion collection was designed by artificial intelligence.
Does this sound far-fetched? It shouldn’t. Digital tools are poised to completely make over the apparel industry. AI is serving as a game changer for everything from apparel design to trend spotting. Automation unlocks the ability for decorators to be wildly profitable. And amazingly cool advances are on the horizon: phone-charging fabrics, self-washing shirts, downloadable 3-D dresses and much more.
It’s the dawning of a new era in apparel – and change is coming sooner than you think.
