How to Craft Better Business Emails

Get the most out of your email marketing with these five simple tips.

1. Write Simply
Emails written at a third-grade reading level receive the highest percentage of responses. Takeaway: Keep sentences short and simple. Avoid 10-cent words.

2. Add a Personal Touch
If you’ve interacted with a person before, mention that. Reference where the interaction happened. For example: “We spoke in January at the ASI Show about power banks.” Still, don’t be overly familiar.

3. Tailor the Subject Line to the Recipient/Audience
What in your message would really capture their interest? Encapsulate that in your subject line.

4. Always Proofread
Before sending, carefully re-read the subject line and copy. Check for missing words. Make sure the message conveys what you intend.

5. Send E-newsletters and Marketing Emails on Tuesday
It’s the day of the week where open rates and overall volume of opens tend to be highest, according to various studies. Thursday comes in second.
