Hackers demanded a ransom from Terry Town (asi/90913) during a cyberattack that prevented the San Diego, CA-based promotional products supplier from processing and shipping orders for nearly two weeks.

Still, Terry Town didn’t pay the ransom and has now fully restored operations, with orders being processed and shipped once more.

“Our customer experience team is currently hard at work handling all the backlogged orders that we put on hold during our outage,” Alp Ereren, content manager at Terry Town, told ASI Media. “Things returned to operational speed July 25, after being down since the incident occurred July 15.”

Terry Town lost internal data files during the ransomware assault and is still investigating the full scope of the incident. “We have no evidence any customer data was taken, but we need to let the investigation be fully completed before we can confirm anything,” Ereren told ASI Media.

Terry Town couldn’t say the total amount of sales it lost while being down, but Ereren shared that the outage obviously impacted business for the supplier and its customers.

“We thank our customers for being patient with us during this time and for understanding the severity of what happened,” said Ereren. “Everyone in our company has been working tirelessly to get things back on track. Our IT team managed to wrap their heads around the situation from the start and took charge in making sure all appropriate steps were taken. Everyone in our customer experience, art, production and shipping teams have been the heroes trying to get our customer’s orders processed, printed and fulfilled.”

Ereren said the attack put in perspective just how vulnerable any company or organization can be in today’s digitally interconnected world.

“It’s the one scenario that seems to happen to those around you, and you think it will never happen to you, until it does,” he said. “A great lesson is to keep completely current with the latest security measures and updates to ensure your networks are secure. Also, have a plan of action that can be implemented right away if this happens to you. And most importantly: Back up your data and have backups of the backups.”
