Storm Creek Hires Product & Sustainability Manager
In her new role, Laura Smith will integrate sustainable practices across all stages of product development for the apparel supplier.
Eagan, MN-based apparel supplier Storm Creek (asi/89879) is furthering its commitment to sustainability with a new hire. A 2024 Counselor Best Place to Work, the company has hired Laura Smith as product and sustainability manager, noting that Smith’s wealth of experience in product development and passionate commitment to environmental stewardship align perfectly with Storm Creek’s dedication to delivering high-quality, eco-friendly products.
Smith began her career at J.W. Hulme Co., a St. Paul, MN-based leather goods retailer that closed its doors last year. During her time at J.W. Hulme, Smith worked her way up to vice president and played a pivotal role in implementing innovative design practices and engaging content, leading to double-digit growth year over year. In 2018, she became vice president of Askov Finlayson, a climate-positive outdoor apparel company, where she discovered a passion for sustainable apparel and carbon accounting.
“I am excited to welcome Laura to the Storm Creek family,” said Doug Jackson, president and product visionary at Storm Creek. “Her expertise in sustainable product development and her dedication to environmental responsibility will be invaluable as we continue to expand our product line and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.”
In her new role, Smith will oversee the development and management of Storm Creek’s product line, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and sustainability. She will also lead efforts to further integrate sustainable practices across all stages of product development from sourcing materials, to maintaining environmentally focused certifications.
Smith said joining Storm Creek is an honor, noting that the company “truly embodies the values of sustainability and innovation.” She added: “I look forward to working with the team to continue creating products that not only meet the needs of our customers, but also contribute to a healthier planet.”
Storm Creek, a 1% for the Planet partner and WBENC-certified woman-owned business, has a goal of donating $5 million to charity by 2030, and as of its most recent impact report, the supplier is nearly halfway there, having donated more than $2.1 million. All of the products in its 2024 Everyday Eco catalog are sustainably made with upcycled materials, water conservation and no harmful chemicals, according to the supplier. All factory partners are certified by the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production and Business Social Compliance Initiative programs to meet high labor standards.
