Atlanta-headquartered Base Brands, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled about 2,000 water bottles because of levels of lead that exceed federal standards. The bottles, which were made in China, were sold at Costco Wholesale stores nationwide and online at amazon.com from January 2018 through February 2018 for about $13 each. No injuries have been reported.

The recall specifically involves Base Brands’ children’s Reduce Hydro Pro Furry Friends water bottles. The stainless-steel-insulated 14-oz. bottles were sold in two packs: one bottle was pink with a character of a bear face, and the other was gray with the character of a lamb head. The bottles have a removable lid gasket and a rubber carry strap.

According to the recall notice, the pink paint on the outside of the bear water bottle contains potentially hazardous levels of lead. The notice states that, in general, “lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues.”

The CSPC and Base Brands are asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled water bottles and return them for a refund.
