Lead Forces M&M'S Jewelry Recall
High lead content has forced the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to issue a recall on M&M’S-branded jewelry. Children’s jewelry is among the recalled pieces, which include earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces sold between May 2015 and July 2016.
The jewelry items covered by the recall have the M&M’S logo “M” as a charm or other feature. No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with these products, which were produced in Vietnam and China.
The jewelry was imported by Phillips International Inc. of Hallandale, FL, which operates the website cooljewels.com. The branded items were distributed by the Mars Retail Group, of Mount Arlington, NJ. Mars sold the jewelry at M&M’S World Stores in New York; Orlando, FL; Las Vegas; and Henderson, NV, with the items retailing between $6 and $18.
The high lead content in the jewelry is a concern because the chemical element is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled jewelry, place the items out of the reach of children, and contact M&M’S World or visit an M&M’S World store to return the jewelry for a full refund,” the CPSC said in a statement.
