The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Health Canada, has issued an official recall for WorkSafe 3-D cell flashlights from Pennsylvania-based Koehler-Bright Star. The USA-made flashlights lack an encapsulation on a circuit board component. The encapsulation prevents the flashlights from igniting in explosive environments, an absence that poses an injury risk. As of this writing, no incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall includes WorkSafe 3-D cell flashlights with model number 2224 LED and no date code. The flashlights have a safety orange barrel with a black reflector assembly and end cap. They measure approximately 10.25” long by 2” in diameter.

An estimated 7,500 flashlights were sold in the U.S., and about 200 in Canada. The products sold at Koehler-Bright Star Industrial distributors, Grainger locations, and on Amazon from January 2017 through May 2018 for about $21.

Consumers are asked to stop using the flashlights immediately, and to inspect them for a missing date code. If the flashlight lacks a date code, consumers should contact Koehler-Bright Star for free replacement parts.
