Under Armour Names New CEO/President

Stephanie Linnartz, who has been serving as president of Marriot International, will lead the athletic wear brand, whose popular products sell in the industry.

Under Armour has found its leader.

The Baltimore-based maker of athletic apparel, footwear and equipment, whose clothes, headwear and bags sell in the promotional products industry, has hired Stephanie Linnartz to serve as CEO/president. Linnartz replaces Patrik Frisk, who resigned as CEO, president and board member in July.

Linnartz officially begins her term in the lead executive role on Feb. 27, 2023. She’s currently president of Marriott International, the world’s largest hospitality company, with nearly 8,200 properties in 138 countries and territories and 30 brands, including The Ritz-Carlton and Westin.

“As a 25-year veteran of one of the world’s most respected global companies, we are thrilled to welcome Stephanie to the brand,” said Kevin Plank, Under Armour executive chair and brand chief. “She is a proven growth leader with a distinguished track record of brand strategy, omnichannel execution, talent acquisition and development, and passion for driving best-in-class consumer connectivity, experience and brand loyalty.”

Colin Browne had been serving as interim CEO since Frisk’s resignation. Browne will return to his previous position of chief operating officer.

“Colin is a world-class industry professional and has done a terrific job leading throughout the transition,” Plank said. “Highlights include refining our long-term strategy by tripling our total addressable market, validating the renewed growth fundamentals necessary to establish sector leadership, and championing our UA team culture.”

Linnartz has been with Marriot for almost 26 years. She became president in 2021, a role that’s seen her providing leadership for all aspects of Marriot’s global strategy and execution.

“She is currently leading a significant technology transformation program to deliver a better customer experience, drive more topline revenue and support more efficient operations,” Under Armour noted. “She has also developed successful multi-year marquee partnerships with the NFL, NCAA and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.”

A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, Linnartz’s previous roles at Marriot include, among others, senior vice president of global sales and vice president of revenue management. Just before becoming president, she was group president, consumer operations, technology and emerging businesses. Since 2017, she has been on the board of directors for The Home Depot.

Linnartz was named to the Forbes CEO Next 2021 list. She is also a member of the Fortune CEO Initiative, a forum of global corporate leaders committed to addressing major social issues.
