The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall on camping chairs because straps on the seats can fail, leading to unexpected falls. While there has been one report of a chair breaking, no injuries have been reported.

Announced last week, the recall centers on the Stargaze Recliner, Stargaze Recliner Low and Stargaze Luxury camping chairs. About 15,500 units retailed at REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) from October 2017 through December 2017 for between $180 and $200. Manufactured in China, the chairs were imported by NEMO Equipment, a Dover, NH-based firm that designs and makes outdoor equipment.

In its announcement, the CPSC said the portable and reclining outdoor chairs have an aluminum frame and black and gray monofilament mesh seat. Weighing between five and seven pounds, the chairs sold in four colors – birch leaf green, graphite, verdigris (teal) and Sedona (red). The chairs retailed in a padded black carrying case, and featured the “NEMO” name and logo on the back of the seat as a stitched logo. The model name is printed on the pocket on the inside right side of the seat.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact NEMO Equipment for a free replacement chair,” the CPSC stated.
