Staples, Inc. Acquires DEX Imaging
More acquisitions could be in the cards for the parent company of Top 40 distributor Staples Promotional Products (asi/120601).
Staples, Inc., parent company of Top 40 distributor Staples Promotional Products (asi/120601), announced Monday that it has inked an agreement to acquire DEX Imaging, a Tampa, FL-based document imaging technology dealer. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Staples CEO Sandy Douglas said DEX makes a strong addition to Framingham, MA-headquartered Staples. “DEX Imaging has created strong relationships with their customers through exemplary service and tremendous industry knowledge in office technology,” Douglas said.
More acquisitions could be forthcoming. “Staples will continue to strategically invest in companies that can bring added value to our customers in the form of enhanced products and services,” said Douglas.
Staples is backed by private equity firm Sycamore Partners, one of a growing number of PE outfits with connections to the promotional products industry. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recently approved Staples Inc.’s acquisition of Essendant, a provider of workplace items that include traditional office products, cut sheet paper products, industrial supplies, janitorial/breakroom supplies and more.
Officials said that DEX Imaging CEO/President Dan Doyle, Jr., Chairman Dan Doyle, Sr., and the company’s existing executive team will continue to lead the business. “Being a part of Staples will allow us greater access to industry- leading technology, and a world class supply chain to accelerate our position as the premier North American print management provider,” said Doyle, Jr.
Founded in 2002, DEX Imaging says it has grown into the nation’s largest independent dealer of brands such as Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Canon and HP. The firm sells office technology to entities that range from small businesses to Fortune 1000 companies. “Over the past 16 years, DEX Imaging has taken great pride in our ability to continually offer quality products and services, and most of all, provide a superior customer experience,” said Doyle, Jr.
With estimated 2017 North American promotional product revenue of $592.9 million, Staples Promotional Products ranked second on Counselor’s latest list of the largest distributors in the industry.
