Joe Biden is pedal to the metal and set to take first in the South Carolina Primary on Feb. 29, according to ASI’s recent bumper sticker poll.

ASI Market Research recently surveyed a sampling of nearly 400 South Carolina voters and asked which Democratic candidate’s bumper sticker they’d be most willing to put on their car, the fourth round of such polling in a month. Almost one-quarter of respondents (24%) said they’d choose the former vice president, followed by Pete Buttigieg (17%) who’s narrowly trailed by Bernie Sanders (16%), the winner of the previous poll in Nevada. Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar rounded out the top six.

According to Nathaniel Kucsma, executive director of research and corporate marketing at ASI, Biden’s support is strong in the state because he’s concentrated much of his campaign there. “Biden is basically staking his campaign on a good showing in South Carolina,” Kucsma said.

If you’re skeptical of the accuracy of a bumper sticker-based poll, consider this: Sanders won the Nevada primary after taking first place in the Nevada bumper sticker poll. While Buttigieg won the Iowa and New Hampshire bumper sticker polls, he only managed to pull off a primary win in Iowa.

The South Carolina bumper sticker study was fielded from Feb. 24 to Feb. 26 by ASI Market Research using the Google Consumer Survey network. A total of 392 valid responses were counted in the single-question poll.
