Goldstar To Offer Ocean Bottle Drinkware

Part of the Top 40 supplier’s “Made Better” strategy, the sustainable bottles feature a 90% recycled stainless-steel body, and their purchase funds collection of ocean-bound plastics.

Top 40 supplier Goldstar (asi/73295) is ramping up its focus on sustainable materials, announcing a new partnership with drinkware brand Ocean Bottle (asi/74713).

A U.K.-based B Corp, Ocean Bottle funds the collection of 1,000 ocean-bound plastic bottles (roughly 25 pounds) for every bottle sold – reducing pollution. As of September 2023, Ocean Bottle has collected more than 26.5 million pounds of ocean-bound plastic, according to its website.

Crafted from a 90% recycled steel body as well as other recycled and recyclable parts, the Ocean Bottle premium drinkware collection includes three powder-coated, vacuum-insulated products: a 17-ounce “O.G.” original Ocean Bottle; a 34-ounce “B.O.B,” or Big Ocean Bottle; and the uniquely designed 12-ounce Brew Flask.

Ocean Bottle “perfectly aligns with our product portfolio, mission and ESG roadmap,” said Heather Smartt, Goldstar’s product development director. “What drew us to this collaboration is their transparent impact on the planet, and their product speaks volumes for itself.”

Goldstar noted that Ocean Bottle’s commitment to creating high-impact reusable products that reduce the use of virgin materials fits in with its own efforts to do the same. Alongside Ocean Bottle, Goldstar’s 2024 new product lineup features 70 items, including 30 “Made Better” designs developed with recycled and thoughtfully sourced materials.

Last year, Goldstar introduced its “Made Better” concept, forming a green team and greenwashing guidelines. In 2023, the supplier introduced sustainable products that included a Reborn Recycled pen (MTR), which features a 100% recycled aluminum barrel. The supplier said it also eliminated the use of PVC and polystyrene in its plastics, shifted most of its paper and cardboard purchases to sustainable material, and cut its overall use of virgin plastics in packaging by 54%.

In addition to the partnership with Ocean Bottle, Goldstar has several sustainability-related plans for 2024, including the finalization of an independent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and a Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification. In February, the firm is beginning lifecycle assessment (LCA) testing on a small collection of its products. The LCA data will provide distributors with product-based output of greenhouse gas emissions to satisfy Scope 3 emissions tracking requirements.

San Diego-headquartered Goldstar is owned by Top 40 distributor Cimpress (asi/162149), whose other companies include Vistaprint and National Pen. Goldstar ranks 34th on this year’s list of top suppliers in the industry, with 2022 North American promotional products revenue of $57.1 million.
