Hexa Custom Uses Excess Fabric To Create Bag Line
The fully customizable line includes laptop sleeves, a crossbody and a tote.
Boulder, CO-based supplier Hexa Custom (asi/60557) is going beyond its signature customizable outerwear, launching a line of bags made from excess fabric leftover from outerwear production.
“Rather than reinventing the wheel, we chose to work with the same high-quality materials already ingrained in our outerwear DNA, fostering a distinct, yet harmonious aesthetic,” said Kath Baker, creative director at Hexa. “In doing so, these bags promise a unique visual identity within the promotional industry.”
There’s also an element of sustainability, since using excess fabric to create bags helps cut down on waste and the supplier’s carbon footprint, according to Hexa. The Puffy Tote and Puffy Laptop Sleeve were both derived from the suppliers’ Mega Puff outerwear collection. The Crossbody Bag is derived from various outerwear fabrics used by the supplier. The fabric choices ensure “durability, weight-bearing capabilities and uncompromised quality,” Hexa said.
Headquartered in Boulder, with production in a factory that it owns in China, Hexa Custom focuses on custom on-demand production, using high-quality materials to create long-lasting, environmentally sound items.
Expanding into bags was a natural next step that matches the company’s brand identity, according to Hexa. “This isn’t just a bag launch,” Baker said. “It’s the inauguration of a new era for Hexa Custom.”
Hexa Custom isn’t the only supplier finding creative uses for excess fabric. Canopy-tent supplier Ameramark (asi/53455) recently launched a line of scrunchies, makeup bags and other products upcycled from scrap material. Other upcycling initiatives in the promo industry include a line of coasters, soap dishes and other products made from repurposed pallet wood from Botanical PaperWorks (asi/41273) and a bag collection that Redwood Classics Apparel (asi/81627) created from single-use street-pole banners.
