Dunkin’ Donuts, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled approximately 8,300 glass tumblers that were imported by industry supplier Moderne Glass Company (asi/71920). According to the recall notice, Dunkin’ Donuts has received 19 reports of the drinkware cracking or breaking. To date, no injuries have been reported.

In a statement to Counselor, Moderne Glass owner Tom McKnight said the tumblers were a custom item and are not part of the Moderne Glass line. “They have never been offered to the promotional products industry by us,” he said. “Moderne Glass did not manufacture or design this product, but arranged for the manufacture of the double-wall glass tumbler by a reputable, well-known glass manufacturer in China, pursuant to the specifications and design it received from the distributor and Dunkin Donuts.”

According to McKnight, “the tumblers passed all UL tests and standards required by the distributor and Dunkin’ Donuts. Moderne Glass has and continues to fully cooperate with the CPSC, the distributor and Dunkin’ Donuts regarding this situation.”

The 16-oz. tumblers for hot and cold beverages, measuring about 8” tall and 3” in diameter, were made in three styles. The first piece features “BUT FIRST, DUNKIN” in white font on the exterior, a clear lid and pink plastic accent at the top; the second style has an orange plastic accent at the top; and the third has a black and gray pattern on the interior of the glass, along with a black embossed silicone grip with the letters “DD” and a black lid.

The tumblers were sold at Dunkin’ Donuts retail locations from September 2016 through November 2016 for between $13 and $15. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled glass tumblers and return them to the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant where purchased for a full refund,” said the CPSC in a statement.
