Geiger Acquires Incentives by Design

The Top 40 distributor said IBD’s attention to customer service sets it apart.

Geiger (asi/202900) is kicking off 2023 with another acquisition.

The Lewiston, ME-headquartered Top 40 distributorship has acquired Tukwila, WA-based distributor Incentives by Design (IBD, asi/230875). Financial terms of the deal between the privately held companies were not released.

Sarabeth Anderson, Geiger’s West Coast regional vice president; Rich and Bill Hirshberg, principals at Incentives by Design; and Chris McKee, Geiger chief revenue officer.

Geiger’s Chief Revenue Officer Chris McKee said Incentives by Design’s keen attention to providing white-glove service to customers is a key reason the Top 40 firm felt the distributorship would be a great fit.

“When we look at potential acquisitions, finding an organization with a customer-first mentality is a must-have,” McKee said. “As we continue to grow, we are doing so in a way that only further improves our customers’ experience. We are thrilled to welcome Incentives by Design to the Geiger family and are confident we’ll be even more successful together.”

Geiger is retaining all IBD employees. Cousins Bill and Rich Hirshberg, who co-founded the company in 1990, are serving as principals. Post-acquisition, the distributorship will be known as “Incentives by Design, a Geiger company.”

“We realize that with today’s technology you can find an adequate mug or pen online,” Incentives by Design says on its website. “IBD adds our unique customer service and total dedication to your brand standards. We become an integral part of your team by finding the correct product and negotiating the best value.”

A family-owned company, Geiger has been aggressive about making acquisitions both domestically and abroad in recent years. In November 2022, for instance, Geiger acquired Brandam, which is based in England. Domestic acquisitions have included Illinois-based CM Promotions and Pennsylvania-based GiveMeFive.com.

Based on reported 2021 North American promo product revenue of $243.7 million, Geiger ranked ninth on Counselor’s most recent list of the largest distributors in the industry.
