Fisher Space Pen Co. to Enter Space Technology Hall of Fame
The promo product supplier sells a pen that’s been on every NASA-crewed Apollo space mission.
When it comes to space exploration, Fisher Space Pen Co. (asi/54423) is nothing short of an icon.
That status has been affirmed again with the news that the Nevada-based promotional products supplier will be inducted into the Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame in a ceremony scheduled for Aug. 26, the last day of the 36th Space Symposium, which is being held in Colorado Springs, CO.
Fisher Space Pen Co. has earned the honor thanks to its flagship product – the Fisher Space Pen, which has literally written the story of American space exploration, as ASI Media documented in this feature on the pen’s 50th anniversary.
Inventor and company founder Paul C. Fisher created the revolutionary pen, which uses a patented pressurized refill system to write in zero gravity, upside down, under water, in extreme temperatures and over almost any surface. He will be posthumously inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame at the ceremony.
Given the pen’s properties, the writing instruments have flown on every NASA-crewed space mission since Apollo 7, including the SpaceX Crew Dragon Missions to the International Space Station. The company also, of course, sells the pens within the promotional products market, enabling end-buyers to align their brands with an invention and company that stands for ingenuity and excellence, advocates say.
Launched in 1988, the Space Technology Hall of Fame honors individuals, organizations and companies that adapt technologies originally developed for space to improve the quality of life on Earth.
“The Space Technology Hall of Fame honors not only breakthrough innovations and ingenuity, but also the craftsmanship and passion these stellar offerings showcase,” said Rich Cooper, vice president for strategic communications and outreach at the Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization that offers a gateway to education, information and collaboration for space exploration and space-inspired industries.
Cooper continued: “Every day, these innovations better lives around the globe, and the Fisher family and its notable company are exceptional leaders to recognize and draw inspiration from. It is an honor to welcome them into the Space Technology Hall of Fame.”
Paul Fisher’s grandson Matt Fisher, vice president at Fisher Space Pen Co., said his family and the whole company are thrilled to become part of the Space Technology Hall of Fame. “On behalf of my grandfather Paul C. Fisher, my father Cary Fisher, my brother Paul, myself and everyone at Fisher Space Pen Co., we thank Space Foundation for this incredible honor,” he said.
Fisher Space Pen Co. is a family-owned company that produces Made-in-America products. The company was invited to the 2019 White House Made in America Showcase and was featured in FOX Business’ Mornings with Maria. In addition, the company was featured on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir’s “Made in America” series.
The pen’s famous bullet design earned it a place in the permanent collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art as an example of classic industrial design. It has also become part of American pop culture and the subject of hundreds of fan videos and several films and TV programs, including an episode of “Seinfeld” titled “The Pen.”
