Fabian Couture Group Acquires Supplier Uncommon Chef
Formerly known as Uncommon Threads until a rebrand, the acquired company specializes in food service apparel.
And the mergers and acquisitions in the promotional products industry keep coming.
Lyndhurst, NJ-headquartered Fabian Couture Group (FCG, asi/53418) announced that it has acquired Uncommon Chef (asi/94217), an Illinois-headquartered supplier formerly known as Uncommon Threads until a rebrand. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Executives at FCG said the acquisition strengthens the company’s uniform and career apparel business division.
“Uncommon Chef is a clear leader in the food service apparel segment,” said FCG President/CEO Joe Ferreri. “Its chef and server apparel reflects the same innovation and high-quality standards FCG strives for in all our apparel. The brand is a perfect complement to the existing FCG Uniform line.”
The company now known as Uncommon Chef launched in 1988 as a textile converter. These days, the firm outfits what executives said are tens of thousands of people in food service apparel in the United States, Central and South America, Europe and Canada.

FCG has an international reach of its own. Established in 1901, the company has offices in the United States and Canada. Its primary business is serving as a wholesale manufacturer of rental and retail formalwear and accessories. The company distributes throughout North America and South America. Company leaders said FCG has a fast-growing complimentary business that supports uniform and career apparel – hence the Uncommon Chef acquisition.
“We believe we found the right business partner in FCG – one that would continue the work we spent 35 years building,” said Scott Verson, founder and now former CEO of Uncommon Chef. “There’s nothing common about the product we’ve developed or the people we are proud to outfit every day. FCG carries that same philosophy within the uniform and career apparel brands they produce.”
Going forward, Uncommon Chef and FCG will support customers with an expanded apparel line for food service, hospitality and corporate institutions. “The Uncommon Chef line will join a successful group of existing in-house and licensed brands managed by Fabian Couture Group, including Executive Apparel, Neil Allyn, Bruno Magli, Ben Sherman, and Couture 1910,” a press statement read.
Mergers and acquisitions have come at a quick clip in promo of late. This week, at least two other deals were announced, with Arch Promo Group acquiring Wristbands America and DreamSeat purchasing The Stadium Chair Company (asi/79912) line of products. There were a flurry of deals to start the year too, and the pace picked up again in Q2.
