Importer Far East Brokers and Consultants Inc., in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled a set of children’s folding chairs and swings due to excessive levels of lead in the screen printing used on the fabric. Sold under the brand name Leisure Ways, the items include a folding camp chair, a moon chair and a swinging seat, all decorated with large images of butterflies and flowers.

The products were manufactured in China by Zhejiang Haifu Leisure Products Co. Ltd. Neither Far East Brokers or Zhejiang are ASI-listed. About 6,000 of the items were sold from January through April in Weis Markets and other nationwide grocery and drug stores and wholesale distributors. No injuries have been reported with the chairs or swing. The CPSC advises buyers to return the items to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, children’s products (consumer products designed or intended for children 12 and under) as well as some furniture for both adult and children may only have up to 90 parts per million of lead in paint and surface coatings. To ensure that products comply, the CPSC requires a certificate of conformity that can be obtained through third-party testing.
