Obituary: Alvin Lauter
The owner of supplier Carter & Holmes passed away in a car crash.
A fatal car crash claimed Alvin Lauter’s life, but it couldn’t erase the positive legacy he has left behind with family, friends and colleagues in the promotional products industry, loved ones say.
Lauter, owner of Chicago-based supplier Carter & Holmes, passed away suddenly following the vehicle accident on June 7. He was 86.
Lauter purchased Carter & Holmes, a neckwear company with roots extending back to 1891, in 1996. He was proud that it was a firm with a large union workforce – one known for custom neckwear designs and creativity that garnered awards.
“My father gave me the opportunity to be part of this amazing industry,” said Kelly Borre, Lauter’s daughter and a regional vice president of sales with supplier AAA Innovations (asi/30023). “I worked side by side with him for over 13 years. He was an idea man. He taught me so much. He loved the promotional products business and made so many lifelong friends. He will be truly missed.”
Lauter is survived by three children, six grandchildren and countless friends. Those that would like to reach out to the family to offer condolences or share memories of Lauter are welcome to do so at Legacy.com.
