The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an official recall for weather radios from Ambient Weather due to four recent reports of smoke emanating from the back battery area. No injuries have yet been reported.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled weather radios and contact Ambient Weather (www.ambientweather.com) for a full refund,” said the CPSC in an official recall statement. “Consumers who received replacement AC power adapters in the previous recall are also included in this recall.”

The radios, manufactured in China, are red and black, and measure about 8” wide, 4” tall and 2” deep. The words “Ambient Weather,” “AM/FM/Weather Band Radio” and “NOAA Weather Radio” are printed in white lettering on the front. Each has a black crank handle on the back, antenna on the top, LED flashlight on the left side, clip on the right and a smartphone charging cable. Model numbers WR-333, WR-333A, WR-334-U or WR-334A-U are printed in the owner’s manual.

The radios were sold in Grainger stores nationwide and online through amazon.com and ambientweather.com from October 2012 through June 2014. While Ambient Weather is not an ASI-listed supplier, a search of ESP for “weather radio” turned up 204 different products from 52 suppliers.
