The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall on bibs that could potentially suffocate children. The Environments brand children’s waterproof bibs feature a plastic backing that can separate from the terry cloth fabric, threatening children with suffocation, the CPSC said.

Manufactured in China, the bibs were imported by Excelligence Learning Corp., a Monterey, CA-based company that does business as Discount School Supply. Between January 2008 and October 2016, DiscountSchoolSupply.com and Environments.com collectively sold about 10,400 packages, which each contained 12 bibs. Neither Discount School Supply nor Environments.com are ASI-listed companies.

So far, Discount School Supply has received 12 reports of the waterproof plastic material separating from the bib. No injuries have been reported in connection with the bibs, which came in two styles. The “Pocket” bib (about $50) is 10 inches wide by 16 inches long with an adjustable snap closure. The “Cover-Up” ($70) bib is 10 inches wide by 16.5 inches long with cap sleeves and smock-back snap closures. Both styles of bibs were sold in blue and feature the clear plastic waterproof backing. “Environments Inc.” and SKU number 900822 or 900823 is printed on a label affixed to the bib.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bibs and contact Discount School Supply for a full refund,” the CPSC said in a recall notice. “Discount School Supply is contacting all known purchasers.”
