Fire Hazard Prompts Recall On Mugs

The mugs were labeled “microwave safe.”

There was only one problem with that: They’re not.

That’s why the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on the mislabeled mugs from DAVIDsTEA.

This mug from DAVIDsTea is being recalled because it is mislabeled as “microwave safe.”

“If microwaved, the metallic print on the mug can spark, posing a fire hazard,” the CPSC said in a statement.

Fortunately, no injuries or incidents have been reported in relation to the mugs, which were manufactured by Lynns Concepts Ltd., of Hong Kong, and imported by DAVIDsTEA, officials said.

This mug from DAVIDsTea is being recalled because it is mislabeled as “microwave safe.”

The ceramic mugs in question are black or pink with metallic gold accents. “You’re my partner in crime” or “I’d check my voicemail for you” are printed inside the mugs on the bottom. The underside of the mugs say: “Not dishwasher safe. Microwave safe.”

About 700 of the mugs sold at DAVIDsTEA stores nationwide and online at www.davidstea.com from January 2019 through February 2019 for about $15 each.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mugs and contact DAVIDsTEA for instructions to replace the mug or return the product for a full refund,” the CPSC said.

Call DAVIDsTEA toll-free at 855-702-3006 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, any day of the week, email at services@davidstea.com or learn more online at www.davidstea.com.

DAVIDsTEA undertook the recall voluntarily.
