BAMKO’s Parent Company Names New CFO
Michael Koempel is taking over the chief financial officer role at Superior Group of Companies.
The parent company of BAMKO (asi/131431), a Top 40 promotional products distributor, has named a new chief financial officer.
Seminole, FL-headquartered Superior Group of Companies (SGC) announced that Michael Koempel has taken over as CFO effective May 31, 2022.
Koempel will report directly to CEO Michael Benstock. He is replacing Andrew D. Demott Jr., who will remain with the company as chief operating officer and as a director in the lead-up to his planned retirement in 2023.
“SGC is primed to convert on its strategic initiatives, and I look forward to helping drive that growth,” Koempel said. “It never is easy taking over from a long-tenured and successful executive, but knowing that Andy selected me as his successor and having him remain with the company for the near term will help to ease the transition.”
SGC reported that Koempel has more than 30 years of financial experience, including a track record of building and scaling apparel and retail brands. He was most recently chief operating officer of IT’SUGAR, one of the largest specialty candy retailers in the United States.
From April 2017 to August 2020, Koempel served as chief operating officer of Victoria’s Secret, a multibillion-dollar e-commerce and store-based retailer specializing in lingerie and apparel. His professional background also includes 10 years as the chief financial officer of Mast Global, which is the supply chain division of L Brands Inc. (now named Bath & Body Works).
Superior Group of Companies acquired Los Angeles-headquartered BAMKO in March 2016. BAMKO spearheads SGC’s promotional products division, which has grown substantially over the years through organic sales gains and acquisitions. BAMKO currently ranks as the industry’s 11th largest distributor based on 2020 North American promo product revenue of $193.9 million.
