CPSC Recalls Kids’ Water Bottles, Girls’ Clothing Set
Mountain Warehouse and H.I.S. International Group distributed the recalled products.
U.S. product safety officials have issued recalls on children’s water bottles that pose a choking hazard and a girls’ clothing set that carries a lead threat. The items sold at retail, and no injuries or incidents have been reported.
Manufactured in China by Dayu Household Products Company, the water bottles from Mountain Warehouse feature a spout that can detach, exposing a small ring upon which children can choke, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. From July 2017 through September this year, Mountain Warehouse sold about 1,000 of the water bottles at its stores nationwide and online at www.mountainwarehouse.com/us.
The 350ml bottles retailed for about $10, and came in five styles: blue lid with a tractor print; yellow lid with a hedgehog print; pale blue lid with a shark print; turquoise lid with a fish print; and pink lid with a horse print. The bottles featured a screw-on top with a pop-up straw and handle. “Consumers should immediately stop using the water bottles, take them away from young children and contact Mountain Warehouse for a full refund,” the CPSC said in a statement.
Mountain Warehouse can be reached toll-free at 866-313-2493 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at mailto:info@mountainwarehouse.com or online at www.mountainwarehouse.com. Mountain Warehouse’s U.S. operation is based in Wilmington, DE.
The other recall involves Self-Esteem brand girls’ clothing sets that came with a gold leaf pendant necklace. “The metal pendant on the necklace contains levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban,” the CPSC said in a statement. “Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues.”
The recalled clothing sets consist of three items: a short-sleeve teal top with cut-out shoulders, a navy blue legging pant with a teal floral print, and the pendant necklace. Bearing the style number PO#71160/LOT9, the sets have a production date of 10/2017 printed on a white label on the inside of the garment.
Retailed at Burlington and Shopko stores nationwide from February through October this year, the sets came in girl’s sizes 4x-12x, and sold for $14. Made by Ningbo Younker Fashion Accessory Industrial Corporation of China, about 4,000 of the sets were sold stateside. H.I.S. International Group of New York imported and distributed the clothing. “Consumers should immediately stop using the necklace from the recalled clothing sets,” the CPSC said.
