Midnite Snax To Offer Socially Responsible Tony’s Chocolonely Products
The gourmet confectionery company has made it their mission to end forced and child labor in the cocoa industry.
Midnite Snax (asi/71685), a Bethpage, NY-based manufacturer of candy, snacks and gourmet food, has reached a partnership to distribute socially responsible Fairtrade gourmet chocolate brand Tony’s Chocolonely in the promotional products industry.
Tony’s Chocolonely has been a certified B Corp since 2013, with a mission to make the chocolate industry 100% exploitation-free. The Dutch confectionery company raises awareness about child labor and forced labor in the cocoa industry, and uses a multistep sourcing process that includes a traceable, transparent “BeanTracker” to digitally log where beans are in the supply chain. The company also says it works to make stronger cocoa-farmer cooperatives and ensure cocoa workers get a living wage.
Midnite Snax executives are excited to bring the brand to the industry. “We kind of consider ourselves experts when it comes to fine chocolate,” said David Katz, partner at Midnite Snax. “There’s no doubt that Tony’s Chocolonely is just that. … But even more compelling is their unwavering commitment to making humane changes to how cocoa is sourced and how cocoa farmers are treated.”
Tony’s Chocolonely has been growing rapidly through its retail and e-commerce channels, and executives from both companies said it made perfect sense to introduce the brand to the promo industry.
“At Tony’s Chocolonely, our creamy, indulgent Belgian chocolate is a vehicle for our mission to end exploitation in the cocoa industry,” said Rachel Molofsky, director of e-commerce at Tony’s. “But we can’t accomplish that alone.” She added that the partnerships will help them create “exciting new corporate-gifting formats that allow our partners to participate in our mission with every delicious bite.”
Founded in 1991, Midnite Snax creates, manufactures and custom-packages chocolate, popcorn, fresh baked goods and candy for corporations all over the world. Tony’s Chocolonely has been making chocolate for 20 years; it was launched after Dutch journalist Teun van de Keuken learned about child and forced labor on cocoa farms and decided to do something about it, according to the brand’s website.
