Lands’ End, parent company of Lands’ End Business Outfitters (asi/250566), is flying high with its latest partnership. The company has landed a deal to manufacture and supply uniforms for Delta Air Lines’ approximately 60,000 employees.

“The new uniform collection will be a strong brand statement and builds on our team members’ sense of pride as they serve our customers around the world,” said Gil West, Delta’s chief operating officer, in a statement. “Fit, form, function and style are all integral to the uniforms for Delta people, and Lands’ End is the right partner to deliver on these things.”

The uniforms for “above-wing” staff, such as Airport Customer Service ticket and gate agents, as well as Delta Sky Club and In-Flight Service employees, were conceived by fashion designer and Project Runway judge Zac Posen, known for dressing celebrities like Claire Danes, Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Watts. The uniforms have a retro, elegant look, updating the airline’s color palette with shades like Passport Plum, Cruising Cardinal and Groundspeed Graphite. Among the uniform options for customer-facing employees is a knee-length dress in plum for women and a three-piece suit in graphite for men.

Lands’ End drew inspiration from Posen’s designs and color palette to create uniforms for the airline’s “below-wing” staff, which includes airport customer service, cargo, ground service equipment maintenance and other technical employees.

“This exciting project has leveraged the strengths of the Lands’ End team,” said Joe Ferreri, senior vice president of Lands’ End Outfitters, in a statement. “We are honored to collaborate with Delta Air Lines and be the supplier of their below-wing and above-wing uniforms.”

Lands’ End will begin crafting final uniform prototypes for 1,000 wear testers who will be sporting the uniforms on the job for four months beginning in December. Wear testers will identify any changes necessary to improve fit, form or function before the final garments are produced. The new uniform collection is expected to roll out in early 2018 for all employees.

Delta’s last uniform updated was in 2006 for above-wing employees and 2000 for below-wing employees.
