CPSC Recalls Rattles, Slap Bracelets

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued official recalls for infant rattles and children’s slap bracelets, both of which can pose an injury hazard to children.

The wooden Green Sprouts flower rattles, made in Taiwan and imported by i play, inc., of Asheville, NC, have small pieces that can detach and potentially cause choking. While i play has received three reports so far of pieces detaching, no injuries have yet been reported.

Each rattle is made from natural wood and measures 2.5” long by 2.5” wide by 4” high. They feature a circular handle with three round flower-shaped balls, including one that contains a silver metal bell, attached with an elastic cord. The text “Green Sprouts,” “Made in Taiwan” and a date code number (14714 or 21815) are printed on the handle. About 6,100 units were sold in the US (and about 30 in Canada) at Whole Foods Market stores and at other stores nationwide. The rattles also sold on Amazon.com and other websites. Items were on sale from December 2014 through October 2018 for about $15 each.

“Consumers should immediately take the recalled rattles away from children, stop using them and contact i play for instructions on how to receive a $50 coupon code to redeem towards the purchase of new products and shipping costs,” the CPSC said in a statement.

i play can be contacted at (800) 876-1574 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, at contactus@iplaybaby.com or at www.iplaybaby.com which has the company’s official recall announcement.

Meanwhile, the furry critter plush slap bracelets, made in China and imported by New York City-based Fantasia Accessories Ltd., have a metal wristband that can pierce the protective fabric and cause lacerations. So far, Fantasia Accessories has received reports of five minor cuts to consumers’ hands or wrists.
