The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall of about 178,000 26-ounce plastic water bottles, due to a choking hazard. Zak Designs, based in Airway Heights, WA, received nine reports of the inner plastic straw in the flip-top portion of the cap breaking, including seven reports of children spitting out plastic fragments after drinking from the bottles. No injuries have been reported.

The 10-inch-tall water bottles were sold exclusively in Target stores, for about $10 apiece, during a nationwide back-to-college promotion from June to July of this year. The bottles feature popular characters on the front – including Captain America, My Little Pony, Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, and Minions – and come in a variety of colors, including clear, gray, navy blue, pink, and teal. The plastic caps come in red, blue, pink and yellow. Mold number “14158” and “Zak Designs®” are embossed on the bottom of the bottles. Bottles with a black inner straw and black twist-off cap were not included in the recall.
