The Book Company Launches 'We Plant Trees'

The corporate giving program will help support reforestation led by American Forests.

Delray Beach, FL-based The Book Company (asi/41010) has announced the launch of its “We Plant Trees” corporate giving program, which will donate a portion of proceeds each year to help plant trees across America through reforestation programs led by nonprofit American Forests.

Missy Kilpatrick, vice president of business development at The Book Company, has been credited with developing the program. A California resident, Kilpatrick has witnessed the damage widespread wildfires have on the environment. Recognizing the obvious impact the company’s product line has on trees, Kilpatrick was inspired by American Forests’ support of more than 135 forest restoration projects in the state, resulting in the planting of over 7.5 million trees in California.

“In my eyes, it's almost impossible to weigh the balance between the majesty of trees and their importance to the ecosystem against the immeasurable educational and inspirational value we gain from reading books and writing in journals,” Doug Greenhut, president of The Book Company, said in a press release. “I’m extremely gratified that the ‘We Plant Trees’ program allows us to pay homage to the products we sell and make an ongoing investment to improve our planet.”

American Forests has been restoring forests for more than 140 years. Since 1990, the organization has planted nearly 60 million trees in forest restoration projects in all 50 states.

In addition to allocating a portion of proceeds each year, The Book Company is also encouraging the support of their industry partners to donate to American Forests: www.thebookco.com/we-plant-trees/.
