When Elizabeth Grojean was traveling in Bali about five years ago, she was enamored with the lifestyle of the “digital nomads” she encountered there – those running businesses from their laptops while enjoying the natural beauty of the Indonesian island.

After doing research into popular products on Amazon, she hit upon a potential opportunity – weighted blankets, which have shown to help with stress, anxiety and insomnia. In 2018, she and her sister Jennifer (who had also been in the fast-paced publishing world in New York City) founded Baloo Living (asi/38053), which specializes in 100% cotton weighted blankets of varying shapes and sizes made with sustainable materials and no polyester or synthetics.

“When I first tried a weighted blanket, I had an amazing experience,” says Elizabeth Grojean, founder and CEO. “I remember waking up from that nap thinking that I had just gone to a new place far, far away and I felt amazing. It was an opportunity to find a product and share it with the West in a way that communicated the experience I had had in Bali.”
