Rumpl Shares 2023 Impact Report

The B Corp-certified blanket brand said it reduced its carbon footprint and donated more than $250,000 last year.

Rumpl, a Portland, OR-based blanket brand offered in promo via Premco Associates (asi/79373), made strides in reducing its carbon footprint, according to its recently released 2023 impact report.

CEO and co-founder Wylie Robinson noted in his intro letter that the company struggled last year with an excess of inventory in the “post-pandemic new normal” and wasn’t able to sell the volume it had expected – but that Rumpl measured success in other avenues instead.

“While 2023 wasn’t one for the record books from a financial standpoint,” Robinson said, “there is still much we accomplished: We reduced our overall carbon footprint, increased our B Corp score and made great strides developing our supply chain, sourcing and company practices to strengthen our relationships and reduce our impact in years to come.”

A certified B Corp since 2021, Rumpl renewed its certification last year, increasing its overall score from 80.5 to 87.3. B Impact assessments measure a variety of factors, including governance, environmental, supply chain management, and how workers and customers are treated. The median score for ordinary businesses that complete the assessment is 50.9, according to B Lab, the organization that oversees certification. Businesses must score at least 80 on the assessment to become certified as a B Corp.

As part of its partnership with 1% for the Planet, Rumpl said it donated more than $250,000 in combined monetary donations, volunteer hours and in-kind product to six organizations dedicated to conservation and environmental stewardship last year. One of those was First Descents, a nonprofit that provides outdoor adventures to young adults affected by cancer and other serious health conditions. As part of Rumpl’s Giving Tuesday efforts last year, the brand said it donated over $106,000 in customized product to support the nonprofit.

In addition, Rumpl has been Climate Neutral certified since 2019, striving to reduce its carbon footprint and offsetting what it can’t eliminate. Since 2022, the brand has focused on three initiatives to reduce carbon generation, including optimized carton sizes to maximize total volume of ocean containers and eliminate wasted space, reducing travel emissions where possible, and using post-consumer recycled materials and other preferred materials in its products.

Last year, Rumpl worked with three organizations to offset its carbon emissions: BioLite, which creates renewable energy products for off-grid households; Cool Effect, a nonprofit with a mission to reduce carbon emissions; and EcoCart, a company that provides “end-to-end sustainable shopping experiences” and generates carbon-impact reports for Rumple customers.

Rumpl uses 100% post-consumer recycled materials made from plastic bottles for the shells, liners and insulation for its core blankets, and has expanded its use of recycled materials in packaging and other product categories. The firm also notes that 78% of its products include at least one recycled or repurposed feature.
