Clever Custom T-Shirts Help Promote City’s Pot Survey
T-Shirts, legal marijuana and the real-world ROI promotional products can help produce are at the center of an interesting story out of the City of Penticton in Canada’s British Columbia province.
Forward-thinking city officials are using T-shirts custom-printed with a clever slogan to encourage residents to take a survey that will help Penticton develop local rules for retail sales and public use of cannabis. Featuring the graphic of a marijuana leaf, the shirts use a play on words to get residents engaged with the survey – “Weed Like To Hear From You,” the shirts say.
Penticton city staffers wear the “Weed Like To Hear From You” tees while out conducting surveys on April 20 – or 420, an international holiday for marijuana enthusiasts.
The shirts – and the witty slogan – have proved a huge hit, driving great engagement with the survey. About 800 surveys were filled out in a week’s span following the April 16th launch. The shirts themselves have become much sought-after. “Just about everywhere we go online and in person, we get requests for extra T-shirts,” Engagement Strategist JoAnne Kleb told Penticton Western News.
Capitalizing on the interest, Penticton is holding a drawing for the remaining tees. Folks gain entry to the T-shirt drawing by filling out the survey and taking the additional survey-promoting step indicated in the below tweet from the city.

Ultimately, Penticton officials plan to use the results from the survey to draft policies related to marijuana regulations – policies that will be shared with the public and refined before being implemented. This summer, Canadian legislators are expected to legalize recreational use of marijuana for adults across the country. While there will no doubt be advertising restrictions in place, the Penticton T-shirts prove promotional products can have a place in what’s expected to be a booming market worth billions.
