Dr. Birx Bobblehead to Support COVID Fight
Five dollars from the sale of each bobblehead will be donated to the Million Mask Challenge.
Through sales of a bobblehead depicting Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has raised $130,000 for the fight against COVID-19.
Now, the Wisconsin-based museum is launching another bobblehead of a public health figure who is helping to lead the United States’ response to the pandemic. And just as with the Dr. Fauci bobble, $5 from every sale of the new $25 bobblehead will go to the Protect The Heroes Fund in support of the 100 Million Mask Challenge.
The new bobblehead is of Dr. Deborah Birx, a Pennsylvania native and former U.S. Army colonel who is serving as the Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has described Birx as his “right arm” in the battle against COVID-19.
“We received a lot of requests for a bobblehead of Dr. Birx and are excited to be able to use the bobblehead to continue to raise funds for a vital cause that is helping to keep those on the front lines protected while also making people smile during these unprecedented times,” said Phil Sklar, CEO/co-founder of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.
Birx began her career as a military-trained clinician in immunology when the HIV/AIDS epidemic broke out in the U.S. She emerged as a pioneer in her field, leading “one of the most influential HIV vaccine trials in history,” according to her biography on the U.S. Department of State website.
Commonly known as the “Thai trial,” the RV144 trial was the first of its kind to show that a preventative HIV vaccine was possible. From 2014 on, Birx served as ambassador-at-large and United States global AIDS coordinator.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame an Museum released the Dr. Fauci bobblehead on April 1. Within a week, it became the museum’s best-ever-selling bobblehead. Sales continue to climb – and thereby benefit the 100 Million Mask Challenge.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Fauci has emerged as a reassuring voice of guidance and reason for many Americans. Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, Fauci is leading the Trump administration’s efforts to monitor, contain and mitigate the spread of the virus.
