Twinkle, Twinkle Little Eyelashes
This one’s for the faux lash lovers that like to light up: Meet LED lashes.
These show-stopping lashes are called f.lashes and are currently in their Kickstarter phase, but they’ve already gained over $110,000 in investments – more than double their goal of $40,000. However, this combo of cosmetics and tech won’t be ready in time for Halloween costumes this year because f.lashes won’t be shipping out until January 2018.
Designed by Tien Pham and Davey Taylor of the Swedish company Tavey Designs, these lashes are lightweight and interact with your movements. The idea arose when the duo began working with small LEDs and wanted to incorporate them into their Halloween costumes.
Whether dancing, jumping or standing still, the colorful LEDs have their own style of communication. The lights get brighter the more you move, reacting to a tilt or nod of the head. The lashes come in seven twinkling colors, and effects range from “endless winks” to “liquid pour.” The lights operate with a coin controller and are powered by a battery that’s similar to a watch battery that lasts up to 4 hours. The coin adheres to the back of the wearer’s head so that the thin, invisible wires to the LED lashes can reach the eyes.
Perhaps one day this innovation will be able to flash words across the eyelids – imagine sparkling lashes lighting up a company name at a trade show or event.
Tavey Designs has also has a fun, light-up mustache option, which is expected to ship to backers by this November.
